geolicaGeolica is a company working on innovation for the development of new sources of renewable energy and in research and development projects with the aim of providing energy solutions and tailored solutions for distributed energy generation in order to cover existing needs arising from growing energy demand. Geolica is seen by many in Spain as a reference model for small energy production (i.e. using small wind turbines) and is working in direct contact with the APPA (Spanish Association for Renewable Energy Producers). Geolica has developed its own technology, including a patented innovative small vertical axis wind turbine which will be the focus of the project herein.
Geolica main source of business at present is as a wind turbine assembler and seller and is located in La Rioja region of Spain. Its main aim is to provide solutions for distributed generation according to the particular requirements of the consumer. This can take various guises:
Continuous generation: used to generate electricity (via wind turbines) continuously, operating in parallel with the distribution network.
Peak energy generation: used to provide electricity (via wind turbines) at peak demand times. These times are when the cost of energy is the highest and thus decreasing the cost of energy for customers.
Isolated generation: used to generate energy (via wind turbines) in isolated regions.
Energy storage: able to combine its wind turbine products with energy storage systems such as dedicated batteries.
